YouTube very rarely goes down, but YouTube Music this afternoon (Pacific Time) is facing a partial but widespread outage across the Android, iOS, and web apps.
YouTube Music’s Explore and Library tabs are empty this afternoon (starting at around 1:30 pm PT), with the Home feed initially fairing slightly better. However, as the outage continues, it’s now entirely blank on Android, iOS, and the web.
You can stream tracks that appear, but song and artist information is missing.
Albums and artist pages do not load, with a “There was a problem with the server ” error message appearing. Search somewhat works. You can ask for YouTube Music on a Nest Hub, but no cover art or other information appears.
The YouTube team has since confirmed this issue.
Update: After an hour, the Explore and Library tabs are coming back online. Starting a song from there will correctly show song/artist information in Now Playing. YouTube Music’s Home feed is still down.
Update 2: If your Home feed still looks like the first screenshot below:
- Open App info for YouTube Music > Storage & cache
- Loss Clear cache
- Close the app from Recents multitasking
- Reopen YouTube Music, and the Home feed should be back
Update 3: After five hours:
Switching to the Downloads page will let you listen to offline content without any issues.
There are no problems with YouTube.com (and listening to music there), or YouTube TV right now.
