Catch him if you can!
14′ Crystal Palace 0-0 Arsenal
It’s been an electric start to this new Premier League campaign by Arsenal. There’s a brief pause as Granit Xhaka is tended to by the referee after copping a ball to the head.
Jesus has looked frighteningly sharp on debut. No wonder he is owned by so many FPL managers!

Guaita palms away stinging Zinchenko strike
10′ Crystal Palace 0-0 Arsenal
This is seriously one-way traffic so far. The Gunners are being allowed to do what they want with the ball and Vicente Guaita has been forced into the first save of the season.
The ball rolled to Zinchenko just outside the Palace 18-yard box but his well-struck, even after a deflection, was effectively dealt with by the Spaniard.

Palace under mounting pressure early on
7′ Crystal Palace 0-0 Arsenal
If the first six minutes are anything to go by, this could be a very long evening for the Palace defense. Arsenal look bang in the mood and they could quite easily be a couple of goals in front already had it not been for a couple of lapses in concentration in the opposing penalty area, most notably from Martinelli.

Martinelli slices wide from a few yards!
4′ Crystal Palace 0-0 Arsenal
That is unbelievable from Jesus but his compatriot Martinelli should do so much better. The former Manchester City striker danced through the Palace defense before the ball fell to his team mate who could only slice his effort wide from a few yards.

10-minute warning
We are just 10 minutes away from the start of the 2022/23 Premier League season and the atmosphere is building nicely in South London. It will be absolutely bouncing by the time the players emerge from the tunnel, as will the other nine stadiums welcoming supporters this weekend.
A quick reminder that neither of these two sides can start this campaign any worse than they started 12 months ago. Arsenal were famously beaten 2-0 in the first game played at the Brentford Community Stadium while Palace were taken apart by Chelsea in a 3-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
By the time last season ended, both teams had, however, turned their fortunes around with two final-day victories. The Eagles signed off with a narrow home win against Manchester United while the Gunners put five past Everton in a 5-1 win at the Emirates.

Pressure on the shoulders of Jesus
It is a massive night for Jesus this evening as he makes his first Premier League appearance for Arsenal after his big-money move from Manchester City last month. Following the departures of both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, the goalscoring burden will fall on the Brazilian’s shoulders.
Not only will Jesus have the pressure of his own fanbase to deal with, he also has the pressure of being the most owned FPL asset of all-time. 76.9 percent of all managers have opted to include the 25-year-old in their teams and they will be desperate for him to hit the ground running tonight.
For those of you wondering how he can earn points, here is how the points system works for a striker.
- Playing 60 minutes or more: 2 points
- Goal: 4 points
- Assist: 3 points
- Missed penalty: -2 points
- Yellow card: -1 point
- Red card: -3 points

Five subs available tonight
One of the key rule changes affecting the Premier League this season is the return of five substitutions. The manic demand on the players in the top-flight, especially those playing for their countries, led to plenty of debate surrounding whether or not managers should be allowed to make an extra two subs.
The decision was, of course, to allow those further changes throughout a match and the first example of its re-implementation will be seen tonight. Whether Vieira or Arteta will choose to make four or five subs remains to be seen, but they will both be satisfied to have that opportunity.
Supporters of the so-called smaller clubs expect for the big teams to be the only ones who benefit but, with a mid-season World Cup on the horizon, it certainly doesn’t seem over-the-top to allow all 20 teams to make up to five substitutions.
Mark Carey has explained the effect it will have on the English top-flight.

A huge evening for new signings
There are several new signings on show for both sides in South London tonight. Jesus, Zinchenko and Saliba will be making their Premier League debuts for Arsenal this evening while Cheick Doucoure will play his first competitive match for the hosts.
The 22-year-old isn’t necessarily a name that most neutral supporters will have heard of, but he comes with significant potential. That explains exactly why his move to Palace from French side Lens cost €21 million earlier this summer.
He may not be a player that will bring fans to the edges of their seats but he will play an extremely important role in the middle of the park if he is able to recreate the form he showed in Ligue 1 in the Premier League.
For the lowdown on what Doucoure can provide, have a read of what Matt Woosnam and Mark Carey wrote about him below.

Will it be All or Nothing tonight for Arsenal?
Arsenal have quickly become the Premier League’s most interesting case study. Not only do they have one of the most youthful managers in European football, their squad is also lacking in genuine experience.
The release of Amazon Prime’s All or Nothing documentary earlier this week allowed us to have a peek behind the curtain at what happened at both London Colney and the Emirates Stadium last season. It was a campaign that, at times, promised so much but ultimately felt like a bit of a failure after the Gunners missed out on Champions League football at the eleventh hour.
More episodes of the documentary will be released in due course but our very own Nick Miller has dissected the three episodes we have been treated so far. Have a read of what he thought of the first installment below.

Just over an hour before the start of their Premier League campaign, Crystal Palace have announced that Christian Benteke has joined DC United in the MLS.
It brings an end to the Belgian striker’s six-year stay at Selhurst Park as he agrees to join Wayne Rooney’s side across the Atlantic.

Palace feel confident, says Mitchell
Many of those watching tonight will remember the crushing defeat that Crystal Palace inflicted on Arsenal last time the sides met back in April. Tyrick Mitchell has claimed that he and his teammates are in an even better place heading into the new campaign.
“Personally, I’m feeling very confident like the rest of the team,” he told Sky Sport. “It’s been a good season and we’re just trying to kick on and get better this season.
“From last season to now, I feel like we’re more of a team and we know how the manager wants us to play so it’s just [about] building on that.”

Zinchenko: The Premier League is back!
It could be a very different Gunners line-up this evening to what we became used to towards the end of last season. One of those who will be hoping to make his competitive debut for Arsenal at Selhurst Park is four-time Premier League champion Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Speaking to Sky Sports before this evening’s match, he said: “Honestly, I’m so happy to be here, to be part of this amazing club. My boyhood dream come true – since I was a kid, I was a massive fan of Arsenal.
“Obviously, I would like to say a massive thanks to Manchester City for everything they have done for me and now is another page, another story so it’s time to be focused on Arsenal. It finally begins, the Premier League is back!”

Arteta on new captain Odegaard
Mikel Arteta has selected Martin Odegaard as his new captain and the Arsenal boss admits the Norway international is relishing the new responsibility.
“Martin has been with us for 18 months, and in my opinion is a player who represents the values of this football club in the perfect way.
“He’s well respected by everybody around the team, he’s admired by all the staff, he has the experience even though he’s 23, he’s done it for the national team.
“He has a passion about the game that he promotes every single day around the club and the way he plays. So I’m really happy to have someone like him and he’s on board. He’s enjoying that responsibility and he will need support, but for sure it’s a huge thing for him.”
